Already banking with an ethical bank? We'd love to hear about that!
"The Woodlands Church Family is proud to take the sustainable step of divesting from fossil fuels.
Initially inspired by the Bright Now Campaign, we are committed to addressing climate change and combating environmental and social injustice. By aligning our financial practices with our faith, we hope to inspire other churches to join us in this important effort.
We encourage all faith communities to consider the impact of their investments and to choose banks and investment options that prioritise environmental and social responsibility.
Just Love's Bank Well campaign is excellent in motivating influential organisations to take action through their finances. The Woodlands Church Family uses ethical and sustainable investment funds and pension providers and is transitioning towards more ethical providers for day-to-day banking services. We hope you will consider doing the same."
"St John’s Waterloo switched from a high street bank to CAF Bank in 2014. We switched because we wanted to move to a more ethical bank, with internet access, and with whom we had a good relationship. It was increasingly hard to maintain a close working relationship with the high street bank.
The switching process was quite straightforward. We opened the new account and gradually transferred all our income and expenditure. The most problematic task was getting people who give to St John’s regularly by standing order to amend the bank details for the payment. Running two bank accounts simultaneously meant that we had to keep a careful eye on both accounts for a while. But once all the payments and income had been transferred we were able to render the high street account dormant.
We would recommend switching, because we are happier with CAF Bank's approach to ethical investment."
The Revd Canon Giles Goddard - Vicar of St John's, Waterloo
"When I attended the Just Love National Gathering in 2023, I was interested to hear about the Bank Well campaign. Bank Well encourages churches and organisations to think about how their money is being put to use by their bank, whether that aligns with their ethical and moral standings, and equips them to make a tangible change by switching banks.
As someone who works in finance, I see firsthand the need for efficient and effective use of money, and was encouraged by how Bank Well helps organisations to consider the harm that their money may inadvertently be used for. However, what excites me most about the campaign is that money sat in the bank can be used to expand God's kingdom.
As the treasurer of my local church, I took part in this campaign by discussing with our Trustees what we want our money to be used for. Through these prayerful discussions, we considered the local impact our savings could be having and the need to align our money with our teachings as a church. We've now begun an ongoing bank switch, and we're excited that our money will now be used to offer low-interest loans to churches, missionaries, and others who are helping bring God's kingdom to earth."
Sam King - Treasurer of St Peter's, Vauxhall
"A few years ago we decided to switch our currenty account banking to an ethical provider. The switch went smoothly and ongoing service has been good.
A one-off change for us has had a lasting impact for others."
Clive Hughes - Treasurer of of Belmont Church, Exeter
